Sarah’s work communicates the raw and ancient energy of the Scottish Highlands through “controlled chaos.” In each brush stroke there lies a desire to ignite a sense of wonder in the viewer and send them deep into nature. Her work features the rich textural element of impasto painting, as well as the loose, spontaneous flow of watercolor.
Sarah’s joyful process involves painting outdoors, getting lost in the thickets, scratching their memory into the paint with a palette knife, chasing the sweeping clouds that drip down into the valley, and the sweetness of the sun splashing on the waves. The controlled spontaneity of her work is the result of careful consideration, a process that involves intense study and immersive experiences in nature.
Sarah was born in Colorado, USA in 1985 and mostly grew up in the forests of upstate New York. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University in New York before pursuing a career in Sustainable Interior Design from RMCAD in Colorado. After graduating in 2010, she worked in the design industry in Colorado for five years while at the same time building her own photography business. In 2015 she left her design job and started doing photography full-time, while also learning how to paint in her free time.
Since then, painting has grown to be her greatest passion and is now her full-time job. Through the power of social media and word of mouth, Sarah’s business has grown and her collectors span the globe.
Sarah emigrated to Scotland in 2017 from Colorado, where she now lives with her husband and black cat near Inverness.
She continues building her skills and portfolio while teaching and selling artwork online.
