Margaret is a leading figure in pastel work, and undoubtedly showcases the medium to its absolute best. Much of her life has been spent promoting and endorsing pastels as a truly serious and worthy medium for artists, and they continue to inspire and excite Evans. She uses them in numerous ways, from wet to dry and the end result is full of depth, light and an effect which is rare to find.
Margaret also uses gouache, which is a similar medium to watercolour but more opaque. The unique consistency allows Margaret to blend tones with the same ease as she would a watercolour, but gives the final product a greater strength in colour. Through her teaching and travelling worldwide, Margaret's herself believes her influences have widened and her style has loosened as she continues to explore new techniques and methods.
Margaret enjoys expressing herself through her work in the use of bolder tone and cites the inspiring artists she has met in her travels across the globe as a constant revitalising factor in her work and life. "I continually source new ways to express myself as a painter, whether through my love of pastel, my sketches in watercolour, or in oils"
