Mark Nicholas Edward

Mark attended Inverurie Academy in Aberdeenshire and later completed the Aberdeen College foundation Art and Design course, which led to him being accepted to Edinburgh College of Art. Since graduating in 2003, he has been living and working as a full time artist in Edinburgh.

His work is inspired by natural rock, plant, and water formations. He also has a long standing interest in Chinese traditional painting and Japanese printmaking since living in Singapore as a child. Mark’s current work is based upon ornamental koi carp ponds. His work practice is juxtaposition between the use of experimentation with various paint media and later regaining control of the composition from unpredictable reactions with fine painting.

Mark recently won the Gordon Arts Forum Douglas Prosser award and has had his work purchased by the Grampian Health Board to be displayed in Grampian hospitals. He has shown work at the Aberdeen Art Gallery, The Paisley Art Institute and had a piece accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy for their open exhibition in December 2005. His work was then used to market and advertise the show across the media.
