Collection: John McKinstry

Having been brought up in Hertfordshire, living in Sussex, and now the West Country, no one landscape holds anymore influence than another. From the rural fields of the Home Counties, the Sussex downs to the Atlantic coast, they have all played their part in helping to inspire and shape, giving me the opportunity to do something I can’t imagine not doing.

My paintings are always inspired by how a certain place feels to me at that moment, rather than a recollection of an image, and the trick for me is to try to recapture those feelings once I have the canvas in front of me.
