Collection: Moira Buchanan
Adalime is a creation of work by Moira Buchanan, an artist living and working in Glasgow.
Many of Adalime’s creations focus on nature, predominately birds. The birds are made from fused glass, sourced from a local supplier. Some of the birds are constructed utilising repurposed glass from glass artists workshops and personal projects. The wire legs on the birds are also repurposed.
The artist double layers fused glass, carefully cutting each shape out of solid glass to represent bird parts such as the head, body and details. Each coloured glass is thoughtfully presented to give each bird its own unique style and character. Each bird is named. At times names are picked because of the birds' features. On other occasions, names pop up randomly or, selected by social media followers, some of their choices are better than the artists.
Adalime began as an illustrative art venture, which it is still is but, after working alongside glassmakers, the artist became hooked on glass. From this point on, she made glass an additional feature of her art and design career. At the beginning Moira worked on rough sketches, adapting ideas of how to assemble the birds. She made experimental pieces which were received very well. So here she is today, creating an abundance of glass birds for people to enjoy.
