Mairi Clark

Much of Mairi Clark's evocative paintings are inspired by the Scottish coastline particularly the East Neuk, where the ever changing interplay between sea, sky and landscape affect colour and mood.

Mairi began her career as a painter studying at the Chelsea and Central St. Martins School of Art where she gained a BA Honours in Fine Art. She has exhibited extensively throughout Scotland, and the U K.

Her influences are artists such as William Turner, Van Gogh and Joan Eardly, while her gestural mark-making suggests an affinity with the Abstract Expressionists methods of working.Mairi uses mainly oil paint for its rich, deep and subtle qualities . She enjoys scratching into the surface to create textural effects. There is an obvious passion in her energetic application of colliding layers of paint that intimate atmosphere and changing weather conditions.Mairi’s use of a vibrant unfettered tapestry of colour and light ensures that her abstract landscapes have a real `sense of place` reflecting her love of the Scottish sea and landscape. "It is very important to me to capture a free and energetic mood in my work"
